The Department of Shalya Tantra in Ayurveda is the surgical science branch, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of surgical conditions, including injuries, fractures, abscesses, and tumors, using both Ayurvedic and modern surgical techniques.

- Surgical Science:Shalya Tantra (Shalya means “foreign body” or “surgical procedures,” and Tantra means “science” or “treatment”) encompasses all forms of surgical intervention within Ayurveda.
- Ayurvedic Approach:It utilizes traditional Ayurvedic principles and techniques alongside modern surgical procedures.
- Scope:This branch addresses a wide range of surgical conditions, including trauma, wounds, fractures, abscesses, tumors, and the surgical management of various diseases.
- Ancient Roots:The principles of Shalya Tantra are rooted in ancient Ayurvedic texts like the Sushruta Samhita.
